General Instructions:
Trash and recycling bins must be out by 6am the morning of collection but may not be placed on the curb prior to 6pm the night before. All cans must be removed within 12 hours of collection.
Remember cardboard must be cut down in size and placed inside containers
All garbage and recycling carts should be placed out with the wheels to the curb and adequate space to the sides for the driver to get the arms around the cart.
Holidays:
Remember to look in the Focus or call Borough Hall for schedule changes on public holidays.
Overflow Collection:
Special Garbage Overflow Collection Weeks have been identified through the year. Garbage Overflow is defined as “extra bagged garbage” that will not fit in the container. During these weeks you may place four additional bags of garbage alongside your container. This period runs from the week after Thanksgiving to New Year’s Day. Extra bagged garbage will only be picked up during this period.
Recycling
Residents may drop off co-mingled and paper/cardboard recyclables in person Monday - Friday 8 am until dusk and Saturday 9 am until dusk.
Bulk Item Disposal
Curbside Collections
Bulk item curbside pick ups are now being scheduled. Bulk items include such items as furniture, appliances and carpet. Household trash, brush/leaves, paint cans/household chemicals and household fixtures and construction material will not be accepted, as these are not bulk items. Collections must be scheduled through the Municipal Clerk’s Office at Borough Hall. A limited number of collections can be scheduled each week. Please sign up early! No items may be placed curbside prior to scheduling and remitting the fee for the collection.
The 2008 bulk pick up fee is $50 for up to five bulk items. If you will be placing appliances curbside, an additional $15 dollars per appliance must be paid. Stickers for the appliances will be provided to place on the item for collection.
The following items are classed as appliances: Washer, Dryer, Dishwasher, Stove, Refrigerator/Freezers (doors must be removed), Air Conditioners and Hot Water Heaters.
An exception to the bulk collection rules will be made for household trash for those who are moving in or out of town. The bulk fee will be applicable for up to five sealed bags of waste in instances relating to moving in or out of Fair Haven.
In the event you must cancel or reschedule, please give at least 24 hours notice to allow another resident to take your spot. After three cancellations, you must repay to arrange for a bulk pick up. A pick up “slot” that has been paid for but not used by the end of October 2008 will not be reimbursed or carried over to 2009.
THERE ARE NO REFUNDS FOR PAYMENTS RELATED TO BULK ITEM COLLECTIONS
Dropping Items Off In Person
Please note that the DPW yard will continue to be staffed the first Saturday of each month for bulk (furniture, carpet, appliances, etc.) disposal subject to public holidays. The schedule can be checked at the “Calendar” (linked) on this site as well as the “Focus Calendar” (linked). Due to the increased cost of disposing appliances, the $15 fee will apply to those appliances that are discarded at the DPW yard as well as those collected curbside.
