On Sat. the Fair Haven Centennial Committee hosted a concert fundraiser featuring the bands River Road and The Haven on the town dock at the end of Fair Haven Road. Both bands volunteered their time and energy to help the town raise funds for next year’s centennial celebration.

“We’re all a bunch of Fair Haven guys,” said Jeff White, keyboard and vocalist of the Haven.

During the performance, committee members accepted donations and sold items such as t-shirts and messenger bags to help raise funds for the 2012 centennial celebration. Charlie Hoffman, an organizer of the summer concert series, Rock the Dock, explained plans to celebrate the Fair Haven’s centennial. The town's 2012 calendar will include a different event each month, with major events including a picnic, fireworks and a parade, free of charge to the community. Saturday's free concert raised $651.

With more than one hundred residents of all ages in attendance, the Fair Haven dock brought family fun and community together. “My goal is to not lose that small town sense when trying to raise money,” said Mayor Michael Halfacre. Referring to this dock as one of the undiscovered treasures of Fair Haven, Halfacre explained that concerts on the dock are held throughout the year.

While surrounded by the Navasink river, boats and the sunset, the bands played a variety of rock cover songs from artists such as the Doors, Led Zeppelin and more. As the bands played, residents relaxed on the dock and caught up with friends, while children had fun dancing to the music and playing on the beach.

“This was awesome, more towns need events like that,” said attendee Jill Herschman.
