PLEASE NOTE: MARRIAGE LICENSES ARE AVAILABLE TO ALL QUALIFYING COUPLES OF ALL GENDER COMPOSITIONS.
PROCEDURE TO OBTAIN A MARRIAGE LICENSE
- This should be done no more than six months before and not less than 72 hours before the ceremony.
- By Appointment Only. Contact the Registrar at (732) 747-0241 ext. *219. No weekend appointments.

WHERE TO APPLY:
- The marriage license application is to be made in the New Jersey municipality in which either party resides and the license is valid throughout the State of New Jersey.
- If neither applicant is a New Jersey resident, submit the application in the municipality where the marriage ceremony will be performed, the license is only valid in the issuing municipality.
Required documents when applying for a marriage license:
- Proof of your identity. by presenting your driver’s license, passport or state/federal I.D.
- Proof of residency.
Your driver's license will be sufficient for both identity and proof of residency - Your social security card or social security number.*
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- You must bring with you one witness, 18 years of age or older.
- There is a $28.00 fee with the application that can be paid by cash or check. Please make the check out to the "Borough of Fair Haven".
- There is a 72-hour waiting period (3 days) to process the application.
- After the waiting period, you will be required to return to the Registrar and pickup the license.
FIVE DAYS AFTER THE CEREMONY:
- Within 5 days of the ceremony, copies 1 & 2 of the Marriage License should be brought to the Borough where the wedding took place..
- Your marriage license/certificate will be on file in the City, Township or Borough where the marriage took place, and that is where you would request for a Certified copy.
