Notification from the Fair Haven Police Department: CAR THEFTS AND RESIDENTIAL BREAK-INS

Unfortunately, the State of New Jersey and local towns continue to be plagued by car thefts and residential burglaries.  Criminals have been attempting to enter homes to retrieve keys to vehicles.  The Fair Haven Police Department is doing everything to try to combat these types of criminal acts and we are asking for your continued assistance regarding this ongoing issue.  Below are some reminders: 

Reminders:

  • Set house alarms at all times, if you have them
  • Leave outside lighting on all night
  • If you have cameras, make sure they are functioning and recording correctly
  • Remove keys, fobs, spare keys/fobs and any valet keys that newer vehicles come with
  • Lock your vehicles at all times
  • Place your keys in a secure area and not visible
  • If your vehicle has a side mirror feature, program it to turn the mirrors in when the vehicle is locked
  • If you keep your vehicles in your garage- still remove keys, fobs and lock the doors
  • Keep your garage door closed and locked at all times
  • Keep all house doors locked including the door from the garage into the house
  • NEVER leave your children in the vehicle unattended
  • NEVER leave the vehicle running unattended
  • NEVER approach any suspected car thieves
  • NEVER leave valuables in your car that can be viewed
  • Report any suspicious activity immediately to police dispatch via 911 or #732-747-0991 and press 0 for the dispatcher
