BRUSH & LEAF COLLECTION - DEFINITIONS

Brush: Place brush loose. It should not be bundled. Brush must not be placed at curbside any earlier than the Wednesday before a scheduled collection week. Brush placed out earlier than the scheduled monthly dates will result in a summons being issued.

Leaves: Leaves may ONLY be placed at your curbside, during leaf collection months  For leaves to be collected according to schedule, leaves must be at your curbside 3 to 4 days BEFORE your designated pick-up week. They must be placed out separate from brush. If brush is mixed in with leaf pies the piles will not be picked up. Leaves in plastic bags will not be collected, except for residents on River Road. Please do not mix any foreign materials, such a wood and stones with leaves as they are taken to a farm for mulching.

Yard Waste: Leafy clippings from hedges and non-woody garden waste, annual plants, weeds, dead flowers and shrub clippings are considered yard waste.  This also includes sod, dirt, sand, gravel and rocks.. Yard waste is also excellent for composting.  Otherwise, it is considered trash and should NOT go out with your Brush pile for pick-up.

Grass: Grass will not be picked up by the Borough. Studies at Rutgers University and other groups have shown grass can safely be left on lawns.

Remember: Once the collection crew goes through a street, collecting brush and/or leaves, it will NOT return until the next scheduled collection week.  After pick-up is complete, the Borough Street Sweeper will sweep through that zone.

Brush and leaf collection days will be listed on the applicable monthly calendar in Focus on Fair Haven Please check the calendar as a reminder of collection dates in your zone.

**VERY IMPORTANT! - Please refrain from placing any brush or leaves within 10 feet of ANY storm drain as per Borough Stormwater Ordinance (6-12-06B)
