IMPORTANT MESSAGE from the Fair Haven OFFICE OF EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT

May 4, 2020

Dear Fair Haven Residents,

As of this date, we have fourteen (14) active confirmed cases of COVID-19 within the borough.  Over the past seven weeks we have had a combined total of 23 confirmed cases.  During that time, nine (9) of our residents have recovered and are no longer symptomatic.  This decrease is extremely encouraging as we have continued to see a modest, but steady decrease in recent weeks.  We are confident that this number will continue to improve going forward.

This past weekend was encouraging as Governor Murphy reopened county and state parks. The weather was beautiful which made it possible for folks to get outside and get some much needed fresh air.  We would like to thank our residents for enjoying our parks while still practicing appropriate discipline with social distancing.  We have been very fortunate to be able to keep our parks open because of how well you have all cooperated with the governor’s executive orders which made this past Saturday just another beautiful day for us all to enjoy.

The opening of state parks is a great first step and an encouraging sign of progress which proves that we are on our way out of this grief with much better days ahead and expanded opportunity to get our community back up and running.  With that being said, we don’t want to become complacent.  Please stay vigilant with social distancing and adhere to all best practices while out in public and especially while frequenting our essential businesses.

We would like to recognize and thank our amazing teachers here in town and beyond for all of their amazing extra efforts with regards to educating our children remotely.  May 4th – 8th is Teacher appreciation week.  As parents we have assumed the role of “Teacher” with our children at home.  This would not be possible if not for the amazing extra efforts and support of our outstanding teachers who have had to completely revamp the education process remotely.  Our teachers have always gone above and beyond with regards to educating our children but this experience has been unprecedented and we appreciate them more now than ever before.

The Police Department, and Office of Emergency Management will continue to monitor this situation and will provide updates as they become available. We are anticipating a time in the near future when more businesses will be able to re-open and we can resume certain activities, but this will still require appropriate social discipline and the use of PPE. Thank you to all of our residents and businesses for all of your support and cooperation during this challenging time.

Chief Joseph P. McGovern, Fair Haven Police Dept./OEM
