Making a Difference - Volunteer Opportunity - Help by Sewing Masks

Volunteer Opportunity

Dear Fair Haven Residents:

Yesterday I picked up the first supply of hand sewn masks that were lovingly created by a group of this community’s wonderfully talented and caring volunteers. I split the total number of masks and delivered half of them (approximately 75) to a doctor from Monmouth Medical Center and the other half to a nurse from Jersey Shore Medical Center.

I had reached out to each of them a couple of weeks ago to see if the need for masks was real and they each replied: “absolutely!”  Attached is a picture that I received this morning from a very grateful group of Jersey Shore Medical Center nurses, who were thrilled to have the masks that our local volunteers sewed for them and they were also very touched by this community’s collective efforts.

They asked me to please send each member of the sewing group their thanks and to share that they will put to good use all the masks that the volunteers can continue to sew. I sincerely hope that our community finds this photo as touching as I do, because it is proof positive that caring for others really does make a difference, on all levels. On behalf of the Mayor and Council, I want to recognize and thank our volunteer mask sewing group. I also want to recognize the Borough’s mask-team organizers, who took this simple national movement and worked together to get it off the ground, here in Fair Haven, as follows: Councilwomen, Susan Sorensen and Meghan Chrisner-Keefe, Library Director, Donna Powers and former Fair Haven Councilwoman, Aimee Humphreys. I told my doctor and nurse connections that we would do our best to keep this home sewn mask making program going, as long as there is a local need.

If anyone is interested in volunteering to sew masks and/or donate supplies to this very worthwhile effort, please reach out to Councilwoman Susan Sorensen at ssorensenfhboro@gmail.com , so we can make sure that we continue this wonderful greater community service. Please also keep in mind that if you have any Borough related questions, comments, or suggestions, feel free to email me at tcasagrande@fhboro.net

Best regards,
Theresa Casagrande, Borough Administrator
